U.S. Citizen Services Information

The Consular Section of the United States Embassy in Asmara will be reducing services temporarily to the public. U.S. citizens requiring consular services should communicate by phone or e-mail with the U.S. Embassy Asmara Consular Section at +291-1-120004 or  consularasmara@state.gov to arrange appointment.

Visit Requirements:

  • Documents: Bring your U.S. Passport, U.S. Permanent Resident Card, or other photo ID if you are not a citizen or resident of the United States.
  • Security Screening: All visitors are subject to security screening.  Electronic devices, including cell phones, are not permitted inside the facility.
  • Face Masks: The Embassy recommends all visitors wear a face mask.  Visitors are expected to provide their own face masks.
  • Social Distancing: The Embassy recommends all visitors socially distance within the waiting room.

U.S. citizens are required to enter and exit the United States using a U.S. passport.

 

Our Services

The U.S. Embassy in Asmara will be reducing services temporarily. U.S. Citizens requiring U.S. Citizen Services such as passports, birth and death certificates, notaries, as well as tax and voting information should contact ConsularAsmara@state.gov or 120004.  We also provide assistance if a U.S. citizen is arrested or hospitalized.
