World AIDS Day

The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) promotes this year’s World AIDS Day under the theme “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV.” This theme echoes the U.S. government’s dedication to ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat worldwide, and PEPFAR’s commitment to support people of all ages, sex, and populations with life-saving HIV services. In Eritrea, the Ministry of Health’s reports indicate the HIV/AIDS infection rate in the country is below 1 – the lowest in the region – as a result of public awareness campaigns to promote early testing and a greater understanding of the virus, provision of antiretroviral treatment and peer counseling, and establishment of many Voluntary Counselling and Testing centers. We commend Eritrea’s fight against HIV/AIDS!
